BereaveMed is not just a standalone website. We are also a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with tax exemption status. Below, you will find our future plans to make a stronger impact in our community. Help us realize our goals by donating today!

Advocacy

We hope that as our reach grows, we will be able to advocate more broadly for the establishment of grief training programs to cultivate resilient medical professionals. Unfortunately, there is currently a paucity of publicly available resources that teach medical trainees how to address grief in their lives and in the lives of their patients. We want to expand what information is available about grief in medicine so that future conversations around medical bereavement are informed, collaborative, and evidence-based.

If you are interested in becoming a team volunteer and jump-starting the establishment of our Advocacy Team, please contact us here, telling us why you are interested in advocacy work and how you would like to contribute. Please also attach your resume, so we can learn more about you!

Grants for Students

Not every medical student has the financial means to take time off from school to properly address their loss or grief. In responding to this need, one of our long-term goals is to provide these students with small grants to cover expenses for leaves of absence from school, making funeral arrangements, and/or therapy.

We know there is so much more for us to learn before we will be able to provide grants to medical trainees. For that reason, we are currently seeking legal and financial counsel. We recognize that this is an ambitious goal, but we are excited to provide such a service one day! Keep checking back to see our progress!

Mentorship

Coping with grief is tough to do on your own. While our website encourages collaboration, we believe that one-on-one interactions have the potential to provide even more valuable support to grieving individuals. For this reason, we are hoping to create a mentorship program that matches trainees with mentors from the same location or institution.

We are looking for individuals who have experienced loss and would be willing to mentor students who are currently experiencing grief. If you are interested in taking on this mentorship role, please contact us here.

Grief Research

One of our founders is currently conducting research on grief. Collaboration is one of our core values at BereaveMed, so as the research progresses, we plan to share it here on our website. We hope that dissemination of this work will encourage other medical students to conduct meaningful research on loss and grief, which has the potential to positively impact trainees at their respective institutions.

If you are conducting research on grief in the medical profession and would like to share your work on our website, please contact us here.

Resources for Residents & Fellows

While our website currently caters to the needs of grieving medical students, we hope to eventually expand support to graduate medical trainees, as well. In order to best serve this population, we are looking to recruit residents and fellows from a variety of specialties to collect their input regarding the challenges that they face in managing their grief while navigating through their training.

If you would like to get involved in this initiative, please contact us here.

This is a lengthy list! We have a lot that we hope to accomplish in the future, but it will be difficult without expanding our team and paying for a variety of services. If any of our initiatives excite or inspire you, please consider donating to BereaveMed! Every donation, large or small, makes a difference.  We will also be sending out quarterly newsletters to all of our donors to update them on the work that they are supporting, so when you donate, please let us know if you’d like to be added to our mailing list.
